There are one of two picking methods.
First method , and the one we prefer, is something called milking. This is where the cherry is held by the fingers on the dominant hand while the fingers on the other are holding firmly to the stem. Then, the cherry is gently pulled away from the stem
This is the best picking method for children.
Second method is traditional picking. This is where the cherry is picked with the stem still attached. The stem is pinched in the fingers of the dominant hand near the spur and it is gently twisted off. The spur is a little branch coming off the tree that produces the fruit. It will produce the fruit the next year, so it is important to be careful as to not damage or remove the spur.
Gently hold the bottom of the apricot with the fingers of the dominant hand. Gently attempt to turn the apricot off the branch. A ripe apricot will come off easily while an underripe apricot will not.
